Four meet records were set in Pullman at the 1971 Pac-8 Northern Division meet.
Oregon's Weldon Vance won the 440y in 46.7.
Washington's Carey Feldman won the javelin in a stellar 268-1.
Oregon State's Robert Reader broke his own 1970 triple jump meet record as he flew to 50-9.5.
And going into the meet, the meet record for the two-mile was 9:03.5 from 1966. The record holder? None other than Bill Dellinger, who was assistant Oregon coach in this meet.
And who broke his record? None other than Steve Prefontaine, who won here in 8:42.4, with Dellinger looking on as Pre rewrote his record.
Meanwhile, other notable winners included Ducks Al Hearvey, who won the 100y and 220y in 9.7 and 21.4, Pete Shmock, who won the shot put in 62-5, and Gary Wolf, who won the discus in 172-10.
Washington State's Rick Olson won both hurdles titles with a nifty 14.0/52.6 double. Teammate Jack Ernst won the pole vault at 16-0.
